Al-Qurraa’ College Holds Termly Qur’an Recitation Competition

In line with its commitment to nurturing sound Qur’anic recitation and strong Islamic foundations, Al-Qurraa’ College successfully held its Termly Qur’an Recitation Competition on Thursday, 11th December, following an intensive drilling and preparation period that began on Monday, 8th December.

The competition was designed to strengthen students’ mastery of Tajwīd, with particular focus on Mudūd, Ghunnah, and Makhaarij al-Hurūf. Emphasis was placed on quality of recitation, clarity of articulation, and correct application of rules -not mere memorisation.

Structured Drilling and Grouping

To ensure effective preparation and fair assessment, students were divided into three groups — Group 1, Group 2, and Group 3. Each group underwent guided drilling sessions led by competent and experienced teachers who worked closely with the students to refine their recitation skills.

Within each group, students were further classified into four categories based on their memorised portions of the Qur’an:

  1. Students who have memorised Juz’ ‘Amma (An-Naba’ downward)

  2. Students who have memorised Juz’ al-Mulk downward

  3. Students who have memorised Juz’ al-Ahqāf downward

  4. Students who have memorised Half Juz’ and above (including Kaamil students)

This structure allowed each participant to compete within an appropriate level, ensuring confidence, fairness, and meaningful evaluation.

Competition Day and Outstanding Performances

On the day of the competition, students displayed impressive confidence, discipline, and command of recitation rules. Judges assessed participants on pronunciation accuracy, elongation (mudūd), nasalisation (ghunnah), and proper articulation points (makhaarij).

The results reflected the quality of preparation across all groups:

  • Group 2 emerged as the only group to secure two first positions, winning in:

    • Category 1 (Juz’ ‘Amma)

    • Category 3 (Juz’ al-Ahqāf)

  • Group 1 secured first position in:

    • Category 4 (Half Juz’ and Kaamil students)

  • Group 3 emerged first in:

    • Category 2 (Juz’ al-Mulk)

Dedicated Mentorship and Leadership

Each group was guided by committed teachers whose dedication played a key role in the success of the programme:

  • Group 1 — Ustadh Mr. Abdulhafeez Oladele, School Guidance Counsellor

  • Group 2 — Ustadh Mr. Amuda Rasheed, School IT Manager who was, due to his absence, represented by Ustadh Mr. Ja'afar Ibraheem, School Agric. Science Teacher.

  • Group 3 — Ustadh Mr. Alli Bakare, IRS Teacher

Their patience, guidance, and expertise contributed significantly to the impressive improvement observed among the students.

Building Qur’anic Excellence

The Qur’an Recitation Competition continues to serve as an important platform for developing students’ confidence, discipline, and love for the Qur’an. It reinforces the school’s mission of combining academic excellence with strong Islamic character.

Al-Qurraa’ College commends all participants for their effort and progress, and appreciates the teachers and coordinators for making the programme a success.

May Allaah accept their efforts, increase them in knowledge, and make the Qur’an a light for them in this world and the Hereafter.
